35 and loving it so far.....
so, i have to admit, i did approach this birthday with a little hesitation. hmmm....maybe part of it was i got a little email from my friend saying hey, it's almost your ama birthday, so i'm thinking almost middle aged? and she laughed and was like no, it's an ob gyn term: advanced maternal age! o.k., i think that was even worse. but then i started thinking, you know what, so some things in my life have not turned out within the timeline i would've expected, it has still been a great life and i feel so lucky to have the amazing friends and family and great opportunities i've had. my sister and i have this long running joke....this is your year!! but i really feel like it is, no matter what comes my way.
it was actually more like a birthday week instead of day full of lots of surprises. i had lunches and dinners w/friends, some cute little surprises from the kids i work with, lots of fun calls/cards/texts from my family, a surprise cake from my young women and the other leaders and the best surprise was my mom and dad flying out for the day to be here w/me on my birthday. i know i lucked out in the parent dept. and feel so lucky they're mine. who else would be willing to fly in at 1:00, be here a few hours and then fly right back out at 7?

Happy Halloween!!
I don't know what it is, but I love Halloween!! Maybe it's all the fun memories of getting dressed up, going out trick or treating and just spending time with family and friends, but I've always thought it was such a fun holiday. Every year I say I'm not going to fall into the same pattern, but always do! I wait until the last minute to figure out what I'm going to dress as and then it not only costs more, but things are usually picked over. This year I lucked out thanks to my generous friends who lent me part of their old costumes and recycling an old costume from last year.
I have to dress up for school, it's just so fun to see the kids reactions, they love it! So, for our Halloween parade at school I was a girl scout. My friends and I also ran in a little 5-k on Halloween morning that was up at this really cute pumpkin patch in Valencia. It was hilarious, they had people jumping out of corn stalks scaring us, etc...
Then, Halloween night our stake had a big singles Halloween dance party. Yeah, let me just say, if you're looking to meet someone, my suggestion is that a Halloween party is probably not the best place for that. I was dancing w/this one guy who was dressed as a nerd w/really bad fake teeth and all and I know it's shallow, but just could not get over it. Anyway, the party was really fun and it was so fun to see how creative some people were with their costumes.

Hard to Believe....
This is just crazy, how is it possible that this little boy is ready to go on a mission. It's official, my oldest nephew Chase (Jen's son) just got his mission call and is going to.... Neuquen, Argentina!!! I'm so proud of him and excited for the amazing experience he's going to have. I was in 10th grade when Chaser was born and as my friends all know I was so excited to be an aunt for the 1st time (and have to say equally as excited and proud of the other 22!!) Anyway, I was even more excited for Chaser knowing that he was going to the mission that was just a hop, skip and a jump over the Andes from mine and for knowing the Pulley Spanish tradition lives on, except for Mitch w/his Italian, but close enough right? :)
Congrats Chaser!! We are all so happy and proud of you!

rise and shout the cougars are out!!!
well, fall is officially here and what better way to ring it in than with an amazing byu football win. the cougars beat #3 ranked Oklahoma 14 to 13!!! seriously, what a great game!! now, i just pray they keep up with their momentum. as a bonus, mindy and brando were out here for a visit this weekend, so we had so much fun watching it together and loudly rooting for byu, which i'm sure was a surprise to my all things ucla crazy neighbors. like, what other teams exist?
**for those of you savvy observants, yes this pic was staged (you can see the player is actually wearing an lsu helmet), but just couldn't find it in me to run and get my camera in the moment.

One of my top 5 summers!!
Crazy how fast time flies, and why oh why is it always Summer that flies by the fastest? What an amazingly fun, relaxing, family and friend filled, adventure filled, happy summer it's been!
My friend Tonnette and I went on an amazing trip to the Baltics and let me just say, I think I have some new favorite travel spots. Everywhere we went was such a great mix of natural beauty and amazing architecture. Speaking of beauty, that's it, hands down Denmark wins for having the most beautiful people, I swear there was not one ugly guy or girl to be found, and Amsterdam was a very close runner up. Of all our stops, I definitely loved Amsterdam, Stockholm and Tallinn, Estonia the best.
A few of the highlights of the trip were:
Going to the Anne Frank House in Amsterdam: so neat to match the image in my mind w/reality
Going on a canal tour of the city in Amsterdam
Watching the changing of the Royal Guard in Stockholm
The Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg: my favorite art museum yet
Sitting inside the Rock Church in Helsinki and listening to the live piano concert
Exploring beautiful Tivoli Gardens in Copenhagen
****After our trip, I headed home to Salt Lake to spend time w/my fam for a couple of weeks. It was a great couple of weeks seeing family and friends and we were able to pack in so many fun different things.
Of course, a trip home would never be complete w/out Girl's nights w/my Mom and sisters. Can I just say how much I love and appreciate them. Seriously, always looking out for me. I can always count on my Mom and sisters to be on the lookout for any potential "dateable" guys, notice the key word.
So my sister Lisa and I went out to lunch one day and turns out there's this guy w/his brother and dad behind us in line. I was thinking to myself "he's really cute", then I turned the corner and Li nodded in his direction to say how cute he was too. So, we go and sit down, Li had left to go get some straws and runs back and says "he's single, no ring!", then she was like, "that's it, I have to get his number for you or else I'll regret it". So, I'm thinking no way, so embarrassing! but then I was thinking, if I left the restaurant and then she did it, what do I have to lose? We proceed to leave the restaurant and Li goes back to talk to the guy. I'm waiting and waiting outside, when all of a sudden she comes out and says "he's married". annoying! why don't some guys wear their rings? but then she starts telling me how she went up to him saying that I thought he looked familiar and asked where he went to high school, Wyoming! (way off). then she asked if he was married? and he said "yes", so she came back w/Oh too bad b/c my sister thought you were handsome and I was going to give you her number. But the best part is Li said, you know what it's a good thing, b/c as I was walking closer to him, I noticed that he wasn't as cute close up and he had bad teeth. Gotta love sisters!! On a positive note, my sister Jen is now 2 for 2 for good blind dates, no more he's LDS, you're LDS. :)

See you in 2 weeks!!
Summer school is winding to a close and I can't believe how fast its flown. It's been a really busy but fun summer at work. Usually, I'm kind of on my own, traveling between schools to see the kids on my caseload. But during summer b/c there aren't as many schools open, they assign a group of us therapists to be at one school. Can I just say, I love it! It's been so fun co-treating with my friends. I love having someone around to swap ideas with and to chat with. We've had some really cute kids we're working w/too which always helps.
Now that work is coming to a close, I'm pulling out the suitcases and gearing up for my trip!! My friend Tonnette (mission friend) and I are flying to Amsterdam and are then headed on a Baltic cruise which stops in Germany, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Russia and Estonia!! I'm so excited, can't wait!! I've been talking to family/friends who have lived/visited some of these places to get ideas on must sees. So, if you have any suggestions, feel free! I'm going to try and stop in at some of the internet cafe's along the way to update!

Kick off the Summer.....
Summer is officially here and it got kicked off in a great way with our Pulley Family Reunion. It was just w/our immediate family, my mom, dad, all 9 of us, spouses and all the nieces and nephews. We figured it has been almost 6 years since we've all been home together at the same time, so needless to say we were all so excited!!
We all packed up the cars and headed up north to the Uintas, to this place called Reid Ranch for the reunion. It was so great, our whole family was able to stay in this huge lodge that had it's own swimming pool and sports court. They had archery, horseback riding, archery, a lake with paddle boats, canoes, etc... and much to the relief of many of the parents, no t.v.'s, no reception for cell phones, no internet, etc.... plus, they took care of all the meals and cleaning. We had campfires every night, where some of the families were in charge of different activities and crafts for the kids. It was seriously so much fun!
At the risk of sounding cheesy, I feel so lucky to have been blessed with the family I have. I love that when we get together, it takes 2 whole days just to get settled down enough to finally talk, I love seeing my brothers and sisters as moms and dads to their own kids, I love that being single, I have a chance to really have quality time w/my cute nieces and nephews, I love that our "in-laws" are just like other brothers and sisters to us, I love that we have a special voice that we revert to when just us girls are together, I love that all of my family are such amazing examples to me, I love that we can make my mom cry by having the grandkids sing a simple primary song, I love that we can laugh, talk, dance like nobody's business when we're together and most of all I love that I can't imagine my life without every single member of my family!

Happy Father's Day Dad!!
so, as I'm sitting here missing my fam on this day, thought I would do something a little more productive and write some of the things I love about my dad. happy father's day dad!!
*i love my dad's frugal ways and thrill of a good deal. this has definitely been passed down, you guys know it has, as much as we laugh about saying "guess what i got and it was only 7.99!" , we know deep down how excited we are to score such a deal.
*his love for adventure and the many adventures he's had that i'm still finding out to this day. i love that my dad was willing to take us kids along on business trips and showing us the sights that i'm sure he had seen a million times, but making it seem like it was all new to him.
*his amazing sense of direction. i'm not kidding, it's eery, he could be in any city, anywhere and find his way around. well, let's not be too generous, there's always san antonio :) really though, this must be a gene that skips a generation, b/c i defnitely did not inherit this.
*his ability to roll with the punches and to accept challenges as they come without complaining
*my dad has the memory of an elephant. no lie! he can remember the most out of the way facts from years ago like it was yesterday. he is smart and i mean walking textbook smart. i think that's what made travel with him so fun. it was so cool hearing all the stories of history from my dad, almost like having your own personal tour guide.
*his many ways of saying i love you. whether it's asking how the car is running, how it feels to have another day off (which he constantly reminds me of), or just saying it straight, i know my dad loves me and i love him.
onto, another subject, figured while i'm on a roll, i'll keep on going. so i hit up 2 movies this weekend. to celebrate our last staff mtg., my friends janet and judy and i went to see "UP!" don't want to give away the plot, but just have to say it's a must see. weird, b/c i'm not real big into the animation movies, but this one was so cute and different than i expected, i even cried in it! there are some great quotables in it and i just loved the message.
then my friend margaret and i went to see "the proposal" last night. i really liked it, funny and plus what's not to like about a good romance and with ryan reynolds, (even better). plus, i went into it with no expectations which always helps. kind of like with dating recently, but that's a different story. but the most embarrassing part of the night happened during the previews. so, this preview comes on for this really freaky horror movie and i absolutely cannot stand scary movies, so i was looking down trying to not listen b/c those things just stick in my head and the music was getting scarier and louder, when all of a sudden this man tried to cross to pass in front of me to get to another seat and i totally shook and screamed a little bit, b/c he came out of nowhere, couldn't even see him in my peripheral vision and it just caught me off guard! well, the poor guy, he was this cute little old man and he ended up turning around and going into another row instead. i felt so bad, but he left so quick didn't have time to explain.

Patio Makeover
most of my fam and friends know that i have been on the hunt for patio furniture, oh since about last year. The problem is we have a nice sized patio, which means lots of room to fill, but patio furniture is so dang pricey! and i'm sorry but i just refuse to spend that much on something that's going to get all beat up anyway. well, i've been scouring craigslist and have found some things here and there, but they're always gone by the time i call. so, then i found these great lounge chairs (bonus, they recline all the way and came w/the cushions) for super cheap. my cute friend nicolle lent me her truck for the day so i could go and pick them up. then, i stopped by world market (one of my fave stores) and spotted this little number which fit perfectly under the lounge chairs. it's amazing what a little bit of color can do to lift your mood. seriously, i love it, i think b/c it's the view i see right outside my window. now, i realize our patio is not going to win any hgtv contest for looks, we still need a table and umbrella to spruce things up, and something to block our neighbors direct view into our patio and vice versa, notice the tarp and wine bottle of our neighbors, lovely! any suggestions? but trust me it is so much better than before.

Flossing 2+ times a day/electric toothbrushing keeps the Dentist away......
So, today I had a cleaning appt. with my Dentist and while I know this is a bit of an overshare, I'm proud to report that this will be my 6th consecutive visit w/no cavities to report!! Seriously for a while there it was so frustrating, could've put a healthy down payment on a new car for the price i had to pay for gum surgery, crowns, etc..., etc... The funniest part of my visit came as I was walking out to the reception area. There was a lady who was trying to step up to the desk right as I was walking in front of her, so she stepped back trying to avoid me and fell right into the lap of this other man who was waiting on the couch. I wish so bad my words could do it justice. It was like comedy of errors!! I felt bad for the lady, but she survived the fall, I think was just very embarrassed.

G'day Mate!!
Excuse the rather lengthy blog I'm sure this will be, but just want to get everything down so I don't forget anything:
I just got back from one of my favorite trips ever: to New Zealand and Australia. I was lucky to have gone w/2 of my really good friends, Misty and Alison. It was the perfect mix of amazing places w/awesome company.
So, here's a recap of our little adventure:
First stop, Auckland, New Zealand: We went to the top of the Sky Tower (the tallest structure in the Southern Hemisphere at 1,076 feet!) The views were beautiful and looking out we could see people being strapped in to bungee jump off the top, no thanks!! Seriously, no desire whatsoever. We also hopped on a city bus tour to see some of the sights. From Auckland, we drove out to Rotorua, went to a Maori Village and watched the guys perform the "Haka" dance. It was so cool to hear about some of their traditions, it's such a cool culture. On our way back we had the chance to do the funnest thing, we went on the Zorb. What it is is this gigantic ball with a smaller ball inside. Basically, you slide into the small ball, they spray some warm water inside and then push the ball down a very long, steep hill. Honestly, I was a little freaked out at first, but once we got going, it was so much fun!!
Next stop, Christchurch, New Zealand: I loved this town so much!! Hands down, it was our favorite of the whole trip. Everywhere you look: green! tons of parks, gardens and really cool architecture. Plus, overall in New Zealand, I just really, really loved the people. Everyone was so incredibly helpful and friendly. Having said that, I was this close to buying a book to translate all of their little expressions, seriously, there were times I had to ask 2,3 times for them to repeat what they had said :) We ended up going on this Lord of the Rings tour while we were there (a little crazy considering I've only seen the 1st movie and fell asleep before it ended). But it ended up being soooo cool! The scenery was so beautiful and it was cool to hear little secrets about the filming of it and how they chose locations.
Next Stop, Sydney, Australia: I was surprised at how huge Sydney is! I loved Darling Harbor and the area by the Opera House. It had some really beautiful parks and neighborhoods, but it was a little too big for my taste. One of our first plans when we booked our trip was to climb the Sydney Harbor Bridge. I know I'm being a copy cat of the Amazing Race, but after I saw them do that, I was thinking, I have to do that. We had to put all of this gear on and attach to this cable to do it. The views were amazing from the top and it was really cool to hear the history of the bridge.
Last stop, Brisbane, Australia: Of the 2 towns, I liked Brisbane better. It seemed like a smaller, quieter more authentic Australian town, and the bonus is it's only about an hour and a half from the Gold Coast/Surfer's Paradise. We ended up taking a train there and we're able to do a little shopping and walk along the beach. Another favorite stop of our trip was going to the Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary. We were able to hold a koala and feed the kangaroos. On our last day we went to church at the Brisbane ward, and then were able to see the temple since it's right next door.
Oh and by the way, have a new favorite airline: Qantas. Oh my gosh! The best customer service, the flight attendants were so stylish in their wrap dresses and the male stewards were really handsome and manly, so rare I know. The seats were so comfy and they had this feature called Seat Chat, where you could send text messages or talk to other passengers using your remote. Too bad the only other people I knew on the flight were right next to me :) So funny, b/c on our flight we were sitting right behind this huge group of kids from a dance group in Australia who were coming to perform at Disneyland. It was so cute to hear how excited they were about seeing America for the first time, probably how we were about flying into Australia. Classic quotable: one of the girls looked out the window and was like "oh look they have a Mcdonald's, we'll for sure have to go". I was thinking you're in luck chickadee b/c they're everywhere. Then another one of the girls was looking down at an aqueduct somewhere around Inglewood and was like "I think that's where they filmed Grease". I was trying so hard not to laugh!

Happy Birthday Millie and Janet!!
So, last week we celebrated a couple of my friends birthdays by going out for some Thai food and hanging out at my friend Millie's house. One of the reasons I think I love my job is the chance to work w/so many amazing people, and these guys happen to be 3 of them. I love it because they are always so willing to share ideas and they constantly crack me up. We always have such a great time together that we actually choose to hang out outside of work. Thanks for a great night you guys!!
On a side note, this is Millie's dog Kita. Isn't she the most beautiful dog? I know some of you are big on the little dogs, but I am a sucker for big dogs. She is so cute and playful and it's hilarious b/c even though she's huge, i don't think she realizes her own strength....my friend calls her baby huey. :)

Good music and a Good Read
So, I love a good c.d. and particularly if it's a soundtrack. Here's an oldie but a goodie that my friend Alison let me borrow. Who remember's this show? So, the theme song is by far the best, the other ones are a tad too instrumental for my taste. Maybe I'll put one of the songs on my playlist for old time's sake. Kim, this soundtrack will forever remind me of you!
Next, onto a great little book I just read. I've always loved Teddy Roosevelt. I think it was after hearing how he used to let his kids ride their pony through the White House that sold me. Anyway, it's a quick read (with big print :)and I really liked that it was a little peek into who he was as a person.

Guilty Pleasures......
O.k., so I'll admit while I would like to say that I spent 3 hours of last night doing more productive things, but would they have been as entertaining as my Bachelor marathon? The funny thing is, I know a lot of acting goes into their "falling in love" and I think a lot of people are just there for the exposure, but the way they built up the finale, I felt like I couldn't afford to miss "the most dramatic Bachelor finale in history".
So, the first 2 hours were dedicated to his final 2 picks meeting his fam and having one last big date. Oh and almost forgot to mention, in New Zealand, where each of the girls was put up in a beautiful home w/amazing views (geez, sign me up if that's part of the package). So, long story short, he chose Melissa, tried it out w/her for the 6 weeks after the show cut and realized that their chemistry had changed and called things off w/her "live" on the "After the Rose" show and then asked Molly if she would be willing to give him another chance, after he had already said he was in love w/someone else. She agreed and now they're going to give it another go.
I personally think he should've gone w/Jillian, totally felt like they were a better match. I don't know maybe it's the pride in me, but I don't think I could be as forgiving as Molly. I think I would be like "Nope, you had your chance and I've moved on".
For those fans out there, and I know there are many, don't be afraid to admit it, what did you guys think of the finale?
